Orange smtp

Hi

Encouraged by a towpath conversation, I've finally 'invested' in a free
Orange PAYG SIM card, and with only a moderate amount of hassle, am now
connecting via the pound a day deal.

Only remaining problem I have is that the outgoing email server,
smtp.orange.net, doesn't work for me. I'm presently using an alternate
based on my web host, but it seems odd that I can't make a connection
with Orange's own server.

What do other folks do?

Bruce, are you using your account name or mobile number for the log in?

I had problems getting this to work for another boater recently and it would appear that the server wanted your mobile number as the email address plus password in order to work. E.g. account name is 07*££$$&&%$@orange.net, password is blahdeblah (whatever you have already set)

Give that a try.

Very strange - using Ross Barkman's page, I've set Multimedia as the
user name and Orange as the log in!

I'll need to register an orange.net identity, presumably, to do it the
other way.

Sorry Bruce, I assumed (I hate that word!) that you had already set up
an account there. If not, use smtp-***@public.gmane.org as that does not
require a user account to be setup and is not password protected.
